„SURVIVE“ – transformation of life.
It all began by having long chats with Michi about her move to Israel, about starting new life in holy-land, seeking refuge in new land saturated with faith, pride of its people and great pain as well…
Michi also informed me about her artistic project „REFETart“ which task was to iniciate creating art-works by exposure to her own photographs. She approached her friends-artists, but not only them. To join her life, thoughts, images and so to strive for one ́s identity process…
Before I saw those /particular images by M. I happened to see one photo of abandoned stale where used to live and find refuge the cattle, the old ones mixed together with the young ones…this space created in me associations with the slaughter-house activities /yes, I recently produced series of canvases on this subject/, I saw also resemblance to concentration-camps… after all the idea of empty stale came back to me again. Now, seeing the cattle, warm and humid with smell of excrements, restless flies constantly attacking the cattle… now empty without evidence of life, rather full of tragedy, filled with silence… soon after that experience I decided to artistically transform this „absence of life“ into a „manifest of life“ where green or colorful plants create organic textures resembling jungle, that keeps growing through abandoned space and further is heading eastward. As if the river flows and makes on its way sharp edges of memories less sharp and so less painful.
A brief contact with one photograph started in me – my mind new theme. That of places, space-spaces now without life but not long ago teeming with life…
This haunting idea navigated me to visit lifeless yard within a lifeless house…that was where my grandma used to live but died long time ago. This very spot well remembered by me from childhood dramatically changed its appearance now.
Deep wrinkles in the once spotless walls blinding eyes with impossible white shade, fallen out bricks, concrete path covering the yard burst open all the way through.
From all these „wounds“ in concrete new life was emerging. Greenery of the bush plants demonstrated the power of life.
This green jungle was ready to swallow the past, the present as well get over barriers and prove the life continuity …
Maybe there, deep under the broken concrete path are hidden my own roots from which is emerging new life.
